FOLDABLE HOUSES
2021, speculative design
Foldable Houses is a concept for architecture that responds to the rhythm of the city and the changing needs of its inhabitants. Buildings that serve functional purposes during the day retreat underground in the evening, making space for nature.
The structure is based on a telescopic mechanism - each level folds into the one below, with the lowest disappearing into the ground. Offices, public buildings, and other spaces not in use can temporarily give way to meadows, gardens or urban farms.
The system uses materials inspired by nature - light, translucent and flexible - allowing walls and furnishings to fold and unfold. The space doesn’t vanish - it transforms.
Foldable Houses reimagine the city as a living structure - one that adjusts, regenerates and coexists with its environment.
